What He Couldn’t Achieve
The book explores the story of Gabriel, a Jew from Tripoli who immigrated to Israel at an older age, through pivotal crossroads where his life could have taken a different path. Upon arriving in Israel, Gabriel was sent to a poor neighborhood and experienced the loss of status and identity.
Through a variety of visual elements - some created with artificial intelligence, including images, diary entries, letters, texts, and poems - the book presents moments that carry two interpretations: the reality that actually unfolded, and the possibilities that never came to be.
Each crossroad is built from layered colors, red and blue. When viewed through a complementary plexiglass sheet, a different image is revealed, reflecting an alternate reality.
Through Gabriel’s story, the book reflects on the rupture experienced by older immigrants, and the gap between the lives that could have been and the lives that were.
